what you should have in your fridge
There are a few things I carry in my fridge all the time – they provide ways to enhance my dishes and serve as substitutes when I run out of other things.
3 Mustards and hot sauce
4 Good quality butter
5 Eggs – keep them there! Keep them in the carton you buy them in to keep them fresh
- substitute for sour cream
- use as a base for salad dressings
- stir into sauces to thicken
- use a dollop of yoghurt in one cup of milk as a substitute for buttermilk – stir and let stand for 10 minutes before using
7 Masking tape and a marker – Label and date your refrigerator contents: the “sniff” test will work some of the time. You can take out the guess work by keeping a roll of masking tape and a Vivid handy – this will help reduce waste and save money – you’ll know what food to use first.
